Does a Citation-Index for Websites Make Sense?

The usefulness of external references to websites is a crucial factor of web-monitoring. It is of high general interest whether your website is visited by the estimated target group or not. This publication measures the value of references of websites by bringing the idea of citationindex to web-analytic tools. The approach presented is considering the number and quality of actions a visitor of a specific website does and the time s/he spent on this website as well as the previous website the user is coming from. The combination of these three parameters are expressed by formulas and afterwards visualized by different tools. Finally this approach is tested and discussed on an existing project. It can be concluded that this concept is indeed useful to get a deeper insight whether external websites addressing the intended target group or not

Interactive Lecturing by Integrating Mobile Devices and Micro-blogging in Higher Education

Following the recent advances in both technology and social interaction, implementation of interactivity to large lecture rooms presents itself as a promising new methodology to improve the learning and teaching process in academia. Namely, based on the underlying ideas of Web 2.0, learners should be able to collect and share online resources during a lecture, additional communication channels such as discussion forums, chat and micro-blogging helping to achieve interactivity on traditional face-to-face teaching. Building on such premises, first experiences have been acquired by the use of mobile devices and instant messaging in enhancing the learning and teaching behavior, with the help of a university wide available Learning Management System (LMS), which has accordingly been adapted and extended to the specific needs of supporting interactivity through mobile devices. The LMS is intended to use common and existing software and hardware (devices of the learners). The goal of the above research is to find out the potentials of interactivity in order to enhance students\u27 engagement in traditional face-to-face teaching in Higher Education. The paper describes the outcomes of the first experiments in implementing interactivity in Higher Education in such a framework within the Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) and comments on the methodology applied. The experiments, which have been performed during lecturing within the course "Social Aspects of Information Technology" at the BSc level, attended by about 200 students, have shown that such kind of interactivity has a positive effect on the learners\u27 engagement

Die Zukunft von Lern- und Lehrmaterialien: Wettergebnisse bei zwölf ausgewählte [ausgewählten] Thesen zur Entwicklung in den nächsten 18 Monaten

Lern- und Lehrmaterialien unterlagen in den letzten Jahren und Jahrzehnten nicht nur einen starkem Wandel, sondern werden sich absehbar - auch getrieben durch aktuelle technologische Entwicklungen - auch zukünftig wandeln. Doch wohin geht die Reise genau? "Zukunftsforschung" heißt die junge Disziplin die versucht, auch im Bereich der Bildung, Aussagen über zukünftige Entwicklungen zu erhalten. In diesem Beitrag stellen [die Autoren] dazu allgemein Methoden und Studien im Themenfeld vor. Konzept für Open Educational Resources im sekundären Bildungsbereich

Open Educational Resources, kurz OER, spielen eine zunehmend wichtige Rolle in der Bildungslandschaft. In diesem Buch, dem eine Diplomarbeit zugrunde liegt, werden deutschsprachige OER-Angebote (Schwerpunkt Österreich) untersucht hinsichtlich ihrer rechtlichen Bestimmungen, ihrer Inhalte und sonstigen Qualitätsansprüchen. Zusammengefasst wird die Untersuchung in einem neu entwickelten OER-Index, der einen Vergleich ermöglichen sollen. Abschließend werden noch die Standards zusammengefasst und ein Ausblick gegeben wie zukünftig OER-Angebote zugänglich sein sollten

Aspects to Be Considered when Implementing Technology Enhanced Learning Approaches. A Literature Review

The significance of approaches to technology-enhanced learning (TEL) has increased rapidly during the last few years. Nowadays in education different approaches such as game-based learning, web-based learning, video-based online courses, and many others are used on a daily basis. However, what defines the success of technology-enhanced learning approaches and how can such approaches be developed in a structured way? Furthermore, what different aspects have to be considered while doing so? To answer these questions, 4567 publications were analyzed in this present literature review in order to recognize the different aspects of implementing technology-enhanced learning approaches. Finally, 20 categories are defined in four main areas that summarize all the aspects in the field of technology-enhanced learning.
